Emily Harding | YVTS Manager & Teacher
At YVTS, I’m passionate about sharing the joy of music with learners of all ages and abilities. With 20 years of teaching experience, QTS (Qualified Teacher Status), and a career dedicated to inspiring musicians, I offer violin, piano, and music theory lessons tailored to help you grow and thrive as a musician.
Having worked in schools across the North of England, including as Head of Junior Music at The Grammar School at Leeds, I’ve taught everything from individual lessons to whole-class instrumental sessions, also spending a substantial time as a secondary music teacher in a busy comprehensive school. My inclusive and holistic teaching approach is grounded in the Kodály philosophy, with ‘sound before symbol’ as a core principle, ensuring music-making is engaging, creative, and accessible to all.
Lessons are offered both at my welcoming home studio in Huddersfield and online, providing flexible options to suit your needs. In addition to individual tuition, I also run workshops, courses, and play-days within the local area, creating opportunities for group learning and musical collaboration.
Whether you’re a beginner taking your first steps or an advanced learner aiming for your next challenge, the Yorkshire Violinist Teaching Studio is here to guide you on your musical journey. Let’s explore your potential together!

Bringing Authentic Live Music to the Heart of the Community
At Yorkshire Violinist, I believe that live music should be for everyone, which is why I’m passionate about creating workshops that bring the joy of string music to local play spaces and communities. Collaborating with wonderful venues like The Spinning Top in Wainstalls and Golden Linings in Brighouse, I offer engaging and accessible sessions designed to spark creativity, inspire curiosity, and immerse children and families in the magic of live music.
One highlight of Christmas 2024 was “Christmas at Santa’s Workshop,” an interactive musical story created especially for preschoolers. Children gathered around me to sing festive songs, shake Christmas bells, and help Santa get his sleigh ready just in time for Christmas Eve. The experience combined storytelling and live violin music, providing a playful yet meaningful way for young audiences to connect with the sounds of the season.
Through workshops like these, my goal is to offer authentic musical experiences to those who might not otherwise encounter live string music. Whether it’s through a lively group performance, interactive storytelling, or hands-on musical play, I’m committed to sharing the magic of music with the next generation. Keep an eye out for more of these special events throughout the year.
